Emerging from New Yorks Lower East Side, she became the youngest winner of the Nuyorican Grand Slam before developing a genre crossing practice rooted in jazz, blues and experimental sound. Her debut poetry album when the poems do what they do earned a Grammy nomination, combining spoken word with live instrumentation in an
