One study with sibling-pairs discordant for maternal smoking during pregnancy ( n = 1,783), for example, found that PTE predicted progression from weekly smoking to nicotine dependence (OR = 1.4 [95% CI = 1.2, 1.8]), but did not predict progression to marijuana dependence in the exposed sibling [158]
